Dowse Catchup / Collier

Post by Chobham Card » Wed Jun 12, 2019 6:51 pm

Just seen it online. Nathan Collier apparently coming in next week to a sign a new deal for next season, and potentially a "brand new" player next week.

Happy with that, I think! Another player with a point to provewho wants to be here and give it a go!

With the 'new player' - isn't Rob Green currently on holiday?

fair play to collier for getting another year, but is he really good enough for the level above? he was a good squad player for us in conference south but this Is completely different

He played 3 years in the division for Dartford, one season they finished 9th so why not

I have my doubts too. But at least he can cover 3 positions so is a useful squad player to have around. I’d hope he wouldn’t be starting every game though.

I really like Collier and thought he was unlucky not to play the rest of the season.

I hoped Green would have signed but as we have Ross and Howes it think it’s highly unlikely

I can count the number of bad games Collier had last season on the fingers of one finger.
Steady and solid. Very much underrated properties imo.
He also amazed me with the best cross of the year away at Oxford (probably the only time he put in a cross tbf).

The next league up will be a test of his pace and he didn’t seem to want to take risks by venturing too far forward, but frankly that’s way better than having a better-but-brainless superstar like FSJones.

I thought Collier was really decent for us at right back before we broke up the back 4 that was working so well so glad he’s being given a shot

surprised we are offering Collier a new deal
we need a quality right back to play in the conference
and he isn't skillful enough for midfield in my opinion
looking at where we are the issue is going to be
will we score enough goals to survive and have we got the creativity
to enable that
getting good players on the money we have is very tricky

There have been games where I have wondered whether he was good enough at full back, especially going forward, but I was reasonably impressed when he stepped into midfield to cover.

I tend to trust Dowse on these things - he has a fair idea on who is doing a good job in defence.

Can't be many full backs in the league that didn't get a single booking on plenty of games!

Reasonably happy with this. Nathan is a decent utility player who can provide cover in a number of positions and I never saw him have a bad game last season. The NL is a big step up so I’d be surprised if he wasn’t just in to provide that cover more than anything. Seems a decent lad and the sort of character that we need. Every squad needs a Nathan Collier.

Good news.

Solid, dependable and never let us down. At least 7/10 every time he plays

Initially underwhelmed by the news but having given it some more thought I can see the logic. Hugely experienced, can cover a number of positions, likely to be a good presence in the dressing room, unlikely to be first choice. Seems a no brainer really.

Good signing / re-signing.

Experienced player who has never let the club down, and very under-rated player

If we had had a team of 11 Nathan Colliers 2 years ago we wouldn't have got relegated

46 0-0 draws wouldn't quite have kept us up.

We'd only have had two less points though!

Happy for Nathan. Not sure what was really going on at the back end of the year when Cook was preferred at RB. Not in the same category as Spence, but if you're fit and a CH gets put in ahead of you in, in what is your preferred position ????? i'd possibly be counting myself lucky to get a call.

Understand that people hoping for an upgrade at RB might be a bit underwhelmed, but if you think of Collier as a replacement for the Spence squad role it's a massive improvement. Versatility, professionalism, consistency. Got a lot of time for him, and would still anticipate a Conference-standard dedicated RB to come - and if not I think he can still do a job.
