Lofthouse training with Wealdstone - how hilarious if we ended up getting compensation from them!

That's really odd if we've offered him a contract and he goes there...

Assume he thought he’d get a big move and it didn’t happen

reality is he wasnt very good for us last season, maybe he could have got a league move before last season but he really let his game go, i think it is about the level he is at right now in terms of form/ability

That's what happened with Max K last season.

NO Max K was going elsewhere till Wealdstones fans paid him a £10,000 signing on fee. Nearly Barnet from memory. He'd start every week as well which must be a temptation. Oh and Alan Dowson to the tellietubbys which I'm not sure if any laps of the pitch are involved.ffs

Oh and isn't Max Pub(Barnet thing ask them) about 29 so we didn't pay anyone out. Offered him terms and he went elsewhere. King Kellerman or Max and I'm pleased he did go . COYC

All I was referring to was the fact we offered Max a contract and he went to Wealdstone instead - it's not that much of an unappealing option. On the contrary, it would probably suit Lofthouse and make him a guaranteed starter rather than a bit-part player with us. I recognise that the age/profile of the players is different.

£10,000 signing on fee, blimey.

Have you a link to anything confirming that?

Pretty sure it's true. Last summer, a Wealdstone official posted on their message board that they had an unexpected chance to sign one of the top players in the division, but in order to do so, had to quickly raise £10,000. They asked their supporters if they could raise that amount within a few days as the player would make a huge difference to their season. Kretzschmar had been doing the rounds but was apparently due to sign for Barnet on the Monday morning - but he failed to turn up, much to Dean Brennan's apparent fury. Max was then announced as a Wealdstone player.

Not watertight, maybe, but I think most people would reach the same conclusion.

Were they fools though? Not suggesting we missed either of them because we signed well ourselves, but Max and Inih were both rightly offered deals and left for better money/longer commitments, and had excellent seasons last year. Kretzschmar was one of the top performers in a very good Wealdstone team that finished extremely well given we nicked their star player, and Effiong probably kept Aldershot in the league, all told, before they flipped him to Dagenham for a profit.

Lofthouse heading to Wealdstone would probably be a similarly decent move for him because the lad needs games, simple as that. If he signs a one-year deal and puts in the kind of performances that had him on EFL clubs' radar he's better off than staying put really. A lot of people were suggesting he'd need to drop a level recently so I'm a bit baffled people are looking down at Wealdstone who are a very well run club.

Quite impressive to raise 10k in that short period of time tbf.

https://www.wealdstone-fc.com/post/firs ... retzschmar

Kretzschmar said it was a “humbling” gesture and made him “very proud”.

and rich, of course.

Stuart Maynard was one of the main reasons why he joined

One of the main reasons, but I can think of about ten thousand other reasons that were ahead of that one TBF.

The 10K was probably to fund part of his wages, rather than a lump sum signing on fee.

Given the wages we are probably paying now, I wouldn’t say that’s much either.

We must have players on close to 2K a week now (Amond, Browne, Ince, Robinson).

Jake Hessenthaler mutually cancels his contract with Crawley. Some really odd goings on over there.

he went against the owners with George Francomb and Tony Craig last year, the latter both ended up at dorking after contract terminations and thats why he ended up on loan with us last year

apparently hes agreed to join sutton, clearly a league 2 level player, what could have been if he didnt get injuted

When Jake did play for us, I was disappointed. Admittedly it was only a few games. No surprise to see him at this level. He'd get nowhere near our midfield 4 would he?
