Squad

Post by The Cardinal One » Sat Jul 07, 2018 12:18 pm

With Josh's departure, we now have 13 players confirmed for the first team. Dowse has said he needs a squad of 17/18 so we need another 4/5 players. Potentially one more could be from the academy, & some could be loans.

I think maybe another utility defender, three more midfielders (central creative type, & cover for appau) and another striker (small, quick player with goal poacher instinct) to play off the big man.

I think/hope we'll end up somewhere closer to 20 with a couple more academy players and maybe a couple of loans. There definitely seems to be an expectation that there will be one or two more academy players - potentially Choules and Hester-Cook who are already trialling - and that would leave us needing, IMO, a specialist RB, two more midfielders and two forwards, a versatile quick forward who can also play out wide and another big man who can rotate with DOA - with his recent injury problems I wouldn't want to rely on him to play 40+ games.

Agreed Hester-Cook looks a tidy prospect.
Should we field a team full of Cooks? It’s becoming quite the name.

Where on earth is Stojsavljevic? I can't be the only one very concerned that probably our brightest youth product of last season has vanished off the face of the earth after falling victim to a 90th minute assault?

I think..... and not 100% on this, could be trialling with Millwall. Not had this confirmed but I wish him well if so.

Just as long as he's ok! Good for him.

He played for Milwall v Dartford, 5-0 by half time.

I actually think the squad is shaping up quite nicely Dowse seems to know his onions let's see how the first 10 games go and take it from there but I have a good feeling about the upcoming season :-)

I don't think we're expecting Stojsa' to stay are we? We'll be due a small fee and potentially a sell-on clause

Don't think we've been given any indication whatsoever, but it doesn't surprise me that he's trialing with league sides given how he looked at times last year. I think (hope!) that a year with us playing more regularly would be great for his mental development - Pickford's in the paper this morning talking about how you "become a man" at this level because you can hear every insult you get, there's nowhere to hide - but with the back line we've brought in I doubt Dowse will be looking to rotate too much, which might limit his gametime. I'd consider it a very pleasant surprise if he did stay.

Don't think there is room for him sadly. Don't get me wrong I'd be delighted if he did stay as I agree he showed great potential in his few games last season but he'll probably think he's much better off in an U23 side of a Championship club than sitting on the bench in NLS as a 4th choice CB or a 2nd choice LB. If he was a guaranteed starter for us it might be different but it seems unlikely now.
