Martin Tyler what's the story?

Post by Stjohn » Wed May 16, 2018 9:38 pm

I only ever thought he was a commentator so how come he is a football coach and has been for over ten years? Not sure how I missed that!

And where does the Woking connection come from? He's from Chester I believe. Was he a fan and involved back in the Chapple era?

Good read, thanks for sharing. Must have moved down here and lived locally from an early age

Seems to be a great connection between him and 'Dowse'

30 seconds into this video you can hear him talk about supporting Woking when he was younger - https://youtu.be/guvpW631R5w

Great video that Nick.

Martin was born in Chester, but moved at an early age and was brought up in Pyrford, he’s an obsessive Woking fan with an incredible knowledge of the club and its players over the years, I saw him play for Woking Reserves with Cockerill, Baker and Crossley a few years back - and you could see he was absolutely chuffed to bumps by the experience.

Here we see Charlie Mortimore and Bobby Ridgewell take the toss prior to Woking 4 Kingstonian 1, FA Amateur Cup 1st Rd 19th December 1953, this was Martin Tyler’s first ever game as a Cards fan 🔴⚪️⚫️

Edit: There’s going to be a piece in tomorrow’s Guardian about Martin’s Woking connections and this actual match (which I helped out on a month or so ago) by one of my Twitter followers here:

Doylie said, “which I helped out on a month or so ago.”

You knew all along Doyle, and you didn’t tell us?? Shame on you.
