Why did people not want this man exactly?

Great appointment by the club, I really, really hope this works out.

I detected something of a regional accent.

Couldn’t quite make out what he was saying though.

Any chance of subtitles on future interviews.

This. I think some people were still blinded by love for Garry Hill but now Dowse is here, and people have heard him speak and seen what his pedigree actually is, they can see why the rest of us were banging the drum for him being the best candidate for the job.

Hopefully we can provide the tools he needs to get us back first time.

I loved the comment 'I'm a local lad' in a broad Geordie accent!

On radio surrey this morning he talked about us not being favourites for the league next season as our budget is only top 6th or 7th in the league. However he said at least it's competetive and that's all he needs.

I'm guessing the budget is down there in the main because we are recovering from relegation and all the pay offs etc. Big ask returning to the national league at the 1st attempt.

Ahhhhh budgets !!!!!!!

Good to hear him get in their early with the 'not favourites line' and our budget is soooooooooooooo small.

On a serious note I would hope our budget would be the biggest or at least one of them.

Even with season ticket sales , we still should have more payers on the gate than some get in total + boost the budget 30 k + Joe Ward money 75 k ( or is that spent?) + ground share money from sheerwater (100k)

I would also assume that we will be charging more than most to get in ? £16 ?

So why are we always skint ?
Who is bank rolled in the south div ?
Is there any parachute payment from the national ?

So apart from the obvious Billericay, who else would have bigger budgets than us in Conf South?

Torquay, Dartford, Truro perhaps?

Dowse has already mentioned ours is more competitive than Hampton, so....

Is the answer our budget is only in the top 6 or 7 (which would make more sense) or is only 6th or 7th biggest?

Top 7 budget sounds about right. Some of the money coming into the club is earmarked to assist with getting our side of the development moving.

The budget would align with my expectations of a play off campaign. Billericay the clear favourites to take the title and some good outfits with some resources coming into the division from either end. Should be an interesting season

Unlikely though it might sound, Hemel are heavily backed. The Yak is (allegedly) on a higher wage there than he was in his final season with us.

We'll also have the prize money from last season's FA Cup run to add to our budget this year which is about £30k.

Looking at the list of NLS clubs, Billericay stand out as obviously having the biggest budget. I'd imagine we're in a similar ballpark to clubs like Dulwich, Torquay, Chelmsford and Dartford (possibly also Truro) so top 6-7 sounds about right. I know Dulwich were paying around £7k per week last year in the Isthmian, but with their ground issues having a significant effect on their attendances they may have to pay a bit less this year.

Of course Ricky .

And Torquay are a decent size club.

But Dulwich, Chelmsford , Dartford, Hemel ffs, never mind those who we have left - Sutton , Dover, Maidenhead .

Its just depressing.

We are a good size supported club in the richest parts of the country - where is the cash ?

I'm not sure what the issue is, look at the wonders GH worked on a combined counties budget!? ;)

I think some of those funds you allude to are earmarked for costs associated with progressing the development - planning applications / feasibility studies / lawyers / architects etc etc

We might need the 100k ourselves to finance a groundshare with another club if the development does indeed become a reality. A season out of the town, would mean a year with lower attendances, and presumably the landlords would charge a fee well in excess of the annual £1 we pay for Kingfield.

We are always skint because our gate receipts barely cover the first team wage bill. Then there are lots of other costs apart from wages (transport, ground maintenance, non playing staff) and not that many other revenues. A familiar problem for clubs with older grounds, by comparison to clubs like Burton Albion.
In terms of bankrolled clubs. Hemel, Billericay are currently. Chelmsford are currently negotiating with someone that intends to.
No idea about parachute payments.
