I am hosting the Lounge on Saturday and will be interviewing Lloyd. It will be great to ask about a remarkable 500 games starting at Isthmian Division 1 South but then Everton and up to the Conference and 3 Wembley victories. I will be asking about team mates, Geoff and Colin's secret and also how many red cards he would have got if playing today. Barry Fry recently said in the Lounge that he thought the Woking run was possibly the most remarkable in the FA Cup (Lincoln might argue!) because everyone forgets where we were at the time.

There are always fascinating guests in the lounge - in the last couple of months we have had old players going back to the 70's, Darren Hay, Gwynne Berry, Andy Clement and Adam Newton. In addition Jim Rosenthal was there the other week, Barry Fry along with Geoff and former DJ Mike Reid. Newts was the guest for the Peterborough game and after Joe Ward's standout perfomance said ' I like your number 23 - he's the sort of player the Peterborough Chairman will go for - maybe even straight after the game'

With that, the excellent food and extras and general experience its a good afternoon - and great for a special occasion

Lloyd is helping us contact some old players but if anyone has any contacts with potential guests do email me iannicholson@matrixtrust.com

Legend!

Lloyd and Shane were some of my childhood Woking heroes! Lloyd's performance vs Stevenage (1997 away, if I remember right?!) is one of my favourite footballing memories as a fan, out of any teams I've seen.

Gutted not to be in the country, hope it's a good time!

Ask him about his memories of Welling Away - we all know what was going to happen apart from it seems the Welling player at the receiving end of the tackle

Lloydie was sat behind me in the LGS for the Peterborough game and was getting behind the team and encouraging the players. Still absolutely Woking through-and-through twenty years after his last game for us. Terrific player and always seems like a thoroughly decent bloke too. Not that you'd have fancied playing against him, mind you.

A lot of ex Woking players are called Woking legends but that is so apt for Lloyd, Lloyd is a TRUE Woking legend and such a lovely guy, an absolute pussycat off the field, a large lion on it.

I remember he was clattered by Grantley Dicks near the tea bar and a few weeks later in a Testimonial involving Hammers his brother Julian Dicks did the same on Lloydy We were stood on the CLT and laughed
Doylie may pinpoint those games

As some others have already said a true Cardinal Legend, well up there for me in the top 10 Ites, Cremators and Cardinals of the last 131 years of our existence. You’d be hard pushed to find such a devoted club man, Woking supporter and gentleman as Lloydie, for the club to honour him in this way is superb and thoroughly deserved.

Just over 500 appearances from 1984 to 1997, and in that time he was sent off only six times for Woking - he has told me in the past that they were mostly not his fault 🤥.

Can you name the six games and give me the name of the first referee to send him off in November 1986?

Merthyr at home when he twatted David D’Auria and nearly caused a riot, Doylie?

Chelmsford? away in the FA Cup (Replay) - 86/7?

Carshalton away in the Trophy when Fred dumped half a ton of shingle on the pitch?

Anorak fact: Lloyd wore about eight different shirt numbers during his career - probably more than any other Woking player.

Ahh Merthyr, if that was the Cup game hadn’t D’Auria done Shaney earlier? That was one of my all time favourite games , Biggo was majestic, also when we dismantled Fancy Dans Yeovil

Not the same game, the sending off was a couple of years later in a league game.

Welling away for booting Gary Abbott right in front of the dug outs. 1994.

Sutton at home in the Diadora title season 1991.

David Elleray sent him off at Chelmsford in 86. Adie Cowler too I think.

Other one? Runcorn at home in 93 my guess.

Full house, absolutely spot on Plug (nice to see you back on here and appreciate your follow on Twitter).

Adie Cowler was sent off by Elleray at Chelmsford too. Lloydie once told me that Adie was in the changing room head held in hands with his bottom lip quivering like a baby after being sent off by Mr Elleray. Nineteen year old Lloyd kept Elleray’s match report for many years for his amusement. In it Mr Elleray apparently described our Lloydie’s firm challenge using FOUR adjectives.

Oh, and Lloydie still holds a pathological hatred of Sutton because of that sending off, just don’t get him started on that lot 🙂
