Sliding Doors Moments

Post by jonwoozley » Wed Nov 06, 2019 10:01 pm

Over the time that you have been watching Woking what moments do you wish had happened differently, and what could have happened?

As a taster, I wish the £150,000 Steve Foster money had been used to paid off the charge over the ground so we kept the freehold.

I'd have liked the club to have awarded Clive Walker the assistant coach position he was looking for.
Not to have paid for Scott Rendell's operation.
Woking to have had a sell on clause for Harry Arter
Tim Buzaglo not to have hit the post against Everton 1991.

No Abramovic at Chelsea, so we wouldn’t have lost a chunk of our supporter base, as Chelsea went from being like West Ham to the original Man City/PSG.

That we'd held on to a 2-0 half time lead over Halifax Town in (IIRC) 1997. Game between the top two, we'd controlled the first half and then in the second half, Brian Kilcline moved forward into the midfield and changed the game.

Exactly what I was going to say. Steve West had a free header at the LGS end when we were 2 0 up and hit the post. Did wonder at the time if we would regret it. IIRC we were 2nd in the Conf at the time behind Halifax - not sure we ever got as high again until this year?

I wish I'd put my student loan on Halifax to win the league in August at 66-1.

I agree about Chelsea. We lost a load of fans who jumped on their bandwagon when Abramovich started spunking millions on them.

A vile nothing club, hate them

Lampard is starting to make them likeable though, annoyingly.

More recently, I wonder what would have happened in 14/15 if Rendell hadn't been injured for 10 or so matches. Or if we hadn't had dropped Gez for the 2nd version of Marriott who couldn't hit a barn door.

We stuttered massively around December/January that season and only finished 2 points off the playoffs.

throwing away a 2-0 lead v Welling certainly didn't help matters either

Threw away a lead in the Easter Monday match against Dover if I remember correctly.

Not appointing rookie manager Anthony Limbrick and not selling Joe Ward and Enih Effiong in January of the same season and then expecting to still stay up. What a shambles that whole season was.

If we hadn’t done that, wouldn’t we still have David Taylor pulling the strings and the records show his decisions would have got us relegated eventually anyway.

That a certain well meaning ex Director had not become a Director and all the chaos and embarrassment that went with it had not occurred.

Given that we got relegated by a point, the sliding doors for me that season were the umpteen near misses. Effiong off the bar against Hartlepool, Lathrope being forcibly retired, Joey giving up on the ball that got stuck in the mud against Macclesfield, RGC off the post and then his stonewall penalty denied against Wrexham, not dropping FSJ for any of the last five games before we binned AL.

Makes me very thankful to be where we are now, on reflection.

Has anyone ever made so many mistakes yet stayed in the team?!

At least Garry and Dowse move(d) players on when they're having a terrible run.

Mike Riley would have sent off Darren Huckerby when he should have.

Failing that the incredibly unlucky Steve Foster would have left it alone at the back stick.

And in return for our result being changed to a positive one we could be kind to others & relay a message to Old Trafford telling David Busst not to go up for attacking corners that day.
